Introduction:

According to UNICEF and International Labour Organization, child labour includes any work that deprives children of their basic rights, such as education, safety, and dignity. It often forces children into a life of hardship at a very young age.

Cause:

The main cause of child labour is poverty. Families who struggle to meet their daily needs often depend on their children to contribute financially. Lack of proper education facilities and awareness also plays a major role. In many rural and underdeveloped areas, children are seen as a source of income rather than learners. Social inequality and unemployment among adults further worsen the situation.

Impact:

The impact of child labour on children is severe. It affects their physical health due to long working hours and unsafe environments. It also harms their mental and emotional well-being. Most importantly, it prevents them from receiving education, which limits their future opportunities and keeps them trapped in poverty.

In India, child labour is still found in sectors like agriculture, factories, small shops, and domestic work. Although laws have been made to prevent it, proper implementation and awareness are still needed.

Teachers and educators have an important role to play in addressing this issue. They can encourage children to attend school, spread awareness among parents, and support students who are at risk. As future teachers, B.Ed students can help create a safe and inclusive environment for all learners.
